Dear precious OFRH family,
Last month Dr. Fuller focused on Gideon and his journey from being the youngest son and a mere laborer for his father (who was a member of the least family in the humble tribe of Manasseh) to becoming a brave warrior for the Lord. That transformation, of course, was because of God’s complete enablement as Gideon learned to trust Him and to obey His instructions. In Judges 6:12 (NKJV) we read that “…the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, ‘The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor.’” Gideon thought the Angel must have been speaking to the wrong man, but God did not see Gideon the way Gideon saw himself. Rather, God saw Gideon as the person He had created him to be, and He knew the plans He had for Gideon.
In mid- November we will move on to another example of the tremendous importance of trusting and obeying God as we observe the decisions Jonah made. After journeying with Gideon and before OFRH begins its focus on the life of Jonah, Dr. Fuller preaches from the book of 1 John where the apostle expounds on all those treasures in Christ that God’s gift of salvation provides for His beloved children. Enjoy these, dear believer, as you study 1 John with us.
Both Gideon and Jonah needed the desire and strength to do God’s will – and so do we. I think you’ll agree that the Lord gives us in the Old Testament a number of people whose experiences shed light on our own walk of faith. The apostle Paul wrote: “For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13 AMP).
