Dear beloved OFRH family,

As Dr. Fuller teaches us from the third chapter of Colossians this month, we’ll be looking at the fruits of His Spirit that our Lord is developing in each of us, His beloved children.

While I have been walking with our Lord through this past month, if I am honest with myself and do a little self-evaluation, I realize afresh that God is not finished with me yet.  How about you? He loves His true children so much that He is committed to keep shaping us and readying us for an eternity with Him. I have been finding more and more that when I have asked Him to help me grow in trust, belief, and obedience, hearing His voice and resting in Him, He is faithful to begin answering those requests. It’s sometimes an amazing experience when I look for how He is answering such prayers as I live out a day. Sometimes, however, He grows His child through difficult experiences, doesn’t He?  He teaches us to trust and learn that He really IS in control when our own fears and anxieties would seem to indicate otherwise.

The apostle Paul writes (in the Amplified Version of Colossians 3:12-14) that it’s as if we were putting on our clothing: “So, as God’s own chosen people, who are holy [set apart, sanctified for His purpose] and well-beloved [by God Himself], put on a heart of compassion kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience [which has the power to endure whatever injustice or unpleasantness comes, with good temper]; bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgiving each other if one has a cause for complaint against another; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive.  Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others].”

Without the Lord’s active presence and direction in our lives, we could not faithfully “put on these qualities.” To do it in our own power alone would be exhausting and essentially impossible. But your loving Lord is FOR you, and as He produces these fruits in your life, peace will result – not frustration and futility. Let’s keep abiding in Him as He continues to grow us.

The CD we’re featuring for August is entitled “Honey In the Rock.” There are 18 excellent solos by Art Jaissle accompanied by the OFRH choir. I’m confident the music will also provide spiritual nourishment. The price is just $16.50 ($18.00 if sent to you in California due to tax).

Looking forward to hearing from you,
