Following is a message that Dr. Fuller sent out in February of 1940. I feel it bears repeating!
“Dear Friends, ‘That I may know Him’ – that is my prayer for this new year. What I pray for myself I pray for each one of you! Christianity is knowing a Person. It is a living faith in a living Christ – not adhering to a complex set of rules. May we come to KNOW HIM in His fullness this year. He died for us. May we live for Him. Let us press on in prayer, in Bible study, conserving and using our energies for Him, that in coming to know Him we may make Him known. Only God knows what the harvest has been in the past year – the number of souls who were hell-bound and are now joyfully pressing Heaven-ward because you have been faithful and, as a result, the Holy Spirit has used God’s Word as it has gone out over radio carrying the good news of salvation.
“As we look ahead we are eager to continue telling out the Gospel story faithfully while there is still time. Anti-Christian forces are rampant in the world – and they are strong! We wonder: CAN we continue sending out the Gospel during this year? Then we realize that this is God’s work. Though we are so weak, HE is strong! As we look to Him, He will sustain and guide and will undertake. Our hearts are comforted and strengthened by the following verses: ‘The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry’ (Psalm 34:15). ‘Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy’ (Psalm 33:18). ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord’ (Zechariah 4:6). Therefore, we go forth to meet 1940 in HIS strength! This world – in its darkness and anguish – needs Christ! We again dedicate ourselves to the preaching of the Gospel, praying, ‘Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, ACCORDING AS WE HOPE IN THEE’ (Psalm 33:22).”
So much of what Dr. Fuller shared in 1940 applies equally (and perhaps even more) in 2024. The forces against Christianity are rampant in today’s world, but ours is a living faith in a living Christ. He rose from the grave and took the sting out of death – HALLELUJAH!
